Hello, Neighbor:

2017 is destined to be a special year in the life of The Free Medical Clinic of America. Twenty-five years ago, we began providing free treatment for uninsured working men and women in Knox and surrounding counties. The number of individuals who have come to us for help has grown steadily to the point that we anticipate treating our 15,000th new patient at some point this year.

Many wonderful people have contributed to our success – especially our dedicated group of volunteers who answer the phones, schedule appointments and process patients as they arrive for treatment. Without them The Free Medical Clinic could not operate.

Eight years ago, we launched the Dr. Tom Kim Charity Golf Tournament. It has grown virtually every year and represents our primary fund-raising event, with gross proceeds topping $300,000. For the tournament’s success, we are indebted to the loyal core of sponsors, players, donors and volunteers who have stood with us, year after year.

I hope you will join us at our ninth annual event, which will be held for the third straight year at Egwani Farms Golf Course in Rockford on Wednesday, September 20.

You have a number of different ways to participate — as a corporate, contest or team sponsor; as a player; or as a cash or prize donor. Regardless of which level you choose, please know that you are offering a helping hand to thousands of men and women who depend on The Free Medical Clinic for their health-care needs.

Elsewhere on the clinic web site are forms you can fill out and submit online. Included are links to sponsorship and donation opportunities, as well as forms to provide team and individual player information. Others detail ways to make a financial donation or donate prizes to present to tournament winners. Another link is available for those of you who would like to join our tournament operation team.

If you want to be an Eagle (Presenting – $5,000), Birdie (Corporate – $2,500) or Par ($1,000 or higher) sponsor and would like to be recognized in our promotion campaign, we need your commitment no later than June 20. If you plan to field a team or want us to place you on a team, submit the participation form, along with your fee, no later than August 31. We will accept teams and players through September 15; however, we cannot guarantee a golf shirt for anyone signing up after August 31.

For those wishing to donate merchandise or gift certificates, we would appreciate your commitment no later than the end of August, although you may submit your contribution or prize any time before the tournament.

We’re pleased to have one of the Rusty Wallace dealerships for the seventh straight year as a grand prize sponsor. A 2017 Kia Sportage – estimated value $25,000 – from Rusty Wallace Kia will go to the first player making a hole-in-one on the designated Par 3. The first golfer making a hole-in-one on any other Par 3 will receive a lesser prize. Prizes will go to winners of up to six other contests – putting, longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin on two or more Par-3 holes – and to members of the top three teams. We will also draw for other prizes. Each golfer will receive free breakfast, lunch, beverages, snacks, a gift bag and a quality embroidered golf shirt.

I plan to ride around the golf course during play so I can greet members of each team. This allows me to thank each player personally. Regardless of how well you play, I consider you a champion, because you are supporting a ministry that is making a difference in our community.
